EPISODE #11
BALANCED EATING
Prior to venturing out on a road trip, one must ensure that they are fully equipped for the expedition. From ensuring the car has a full tank of gas to testing brake lights, there are many moving parts that contribute to a proper functioning vehicle. With regular maintenance and upkeep, a car will generally stay running throughout the duration of the trip and serve as a reliable means for transportation. Much like a vehicle, the human body requires regular maintenance to keep functioning from day to day and it will send us signs in the form of a “warning light” when things are “off”.
For Krista Williamson, showing others how to fuel their bodies is her true passion. As a Registered Dietitian, Krista encounters a number of different individuals, each coming from different walks of life with their own set of goals regarding their body and overall health. Knowing the power of food, a firsthand experience spurred her love for helping others prevent disease and illness in their own bodies.
The quality and type of food one supplies their body with has an immense influence over energy levels, cardiovascular systems, immune systems and levels of inflammation, to name a few.
When a vehicle is filled with the wrong type of fuel it can cause adverse effects on the engine, just as if a body hadn’t been filled with the proper nutrients. The body is made up of many anatomical systems each craving an individualized sense of homeostasis to be able to work in harmony with all the other parts of the body. One’s eating habits play an integral role in giving our bodies the necessary tools to reach its optimal state. Reminiscent of how vehicles physically drive us to wherever we need to go, our bodies support and drive us through life and should be treated with nutritious and healthy habits to fuel each of our journeys.
